Tori Richard created the Mauna Kea 50th Anniversary Aloha Shirt in a custom washable silk/cotton jacquard weave evoking waves in perpetual motion. The exclusive design was inspired by the Japanese woodblock print motifs that have been a favorite of Tori Richard designers since the early 1960s, when company founder Mort Feldman translated his passion for Japanese antiques and screens into the prints that remain a Tori Richard signature.
In a nod to the hotel’s extraordinary collection of Asian art as well as its famed oceanfront location, the subtle monotone weave captures the timeless beauty of art and nature in one luxurious garment that’s not without a sense of whimsy: a close inspection reveals that the “spray” curling off the waves is made up of tiny Mauna Kea plumeria.
